Science comes alive in Poligny

A century of science and cheese: A look back at our open days in Poligny

There’s a place where milk becomes an adventure, where cheese tells stories, and where curiosity reigns supreme. That place is the INRAE site in Poligny, which opened its doors for two special days to celebrate both its centenary and the French “Fête de la Science.”

On Friday, the halls echoed with the quick steps of young visitors. Colorful backpacks darted between workshops, eyes sparkled with curiosity, and every explanation captivated eager ears. 170 schoolchildren from Poligny and Champagnole explored a world where milk transforms, bacteria become heroes, and cheese is no longer just on the plate—it’s at the very heart of science.

On Saturday, visitors of all ages crossed our threshold, eager to discover what lies behind a century of research. Families, enthusiasts, and the simply curious roamed through the laboratories, took part in experiments, and asked countless questions, uncovering the hidden side of our work.

Over these two days, we shared much more than knowledge: we shared wonder, hands-on experiences, and the joy of seeing curiosity turn into understanding. Our partners and institutional representatives were there too, witnessing this vibrant encounter between science and society.

These Open Days will remain a highlight of our centenary celebrations—a moment of sharing and pride for our entire team.

To all our visitors: thank you for celebrating our 100th anniversary with us!

And to all our staff: thank you for your unwavering dedication. Your energy, clear explanations, and enthusiasm brought science to life for everyone who joined us.
